Carlisle Intermediate Back in Time to the Civil War!

A small English Civil War-era cannonImage via Wikipedia

Carlisle Intermediate students went back in time, Friday, May 8, 2009 to the Civil War era. This past week was Civil War Days at Bob Grigsby Intermediate School. The students had many different lessons through the course of the day. Tom Porter taught the students about weaponry used during the war, the students chatted with Abe Lincoln, and chowed down on some rations that kept the soldiers fed.

There is a complete article in the Middletown Journal here. The students capped off the days events by watcing the re-enactors from the 5th Ohio Light Artillery and 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry take to the battlefield and fire off a cannon.

The students saw first hand the dangers of the war, the diet of the soldiers, and the trials that the people of that era endured during the Civil War.

Carlisle Highest Graduation Rate in the Area!

Recently, the Middletown Journal ran a report on area schools and their graduation rate. The State of Ohio requirement for schools for 2008 was 9 of 10 students graduate. Carlisle results came in far above other schools in the area at 97.3% graduation rate!

This is an extreme honor in the area and really displays the magnitude of our teachers and administration on striving for excellence in training and teaching our children. The dedication it takes day in and day out from our teachers is remarkable. Their efforts should not be overlooked and praised for the positive results we are seeing in our community and area!

This also displays the hard work from our parents and students and their effort to not settle but to be their very best. Congratulations Carlisle School District from administrators to teachers down to the students and parents for working hard and achieving in the classroom!

From the Journal: "Carlisle High School graduated 97.3 percent of students, an accomplishment Principal Matt Bishop said involves a team effort by school staff, parents and students.

“I feel the staff at Carlisle High School takes a ‘try anything’ approach to getting our kids through while maintaining high expectations,” Bishop said.

Local grad rates for Class of 2008

Carlisle 97.3 %

Monroe 95.2 %

Madison 94.2 %

Last Day of School because of Calamity Days!

If you get on the School District's website it might be hard to find, but a question that is of great interest to parents is "When is the last day of school?"

Carlisle Daily has been informed that the last day of school will be extended to June 10 because of snow days that were accumulated over the winter months. Graduation still will be held on June 6th.

Many of you may have already known this, but Carlisle Daily wanted to make sure the word was out and give you a source for the school's schedules. As we get more info for any other key dates for the remainder of the school schedule we will post as soon as we get information.
